A gentle reminder that curiosity is what keeps us flexible, emotionally regulated, and alive. It’s not about having answers: it’s about staying open. The best leaders, learners, and humans keep asking questions, especially in uncertainty. Curiosity softens rigidity, supports growth, and helps us stay engaged with life instead of just functioning through it.
Such a great post, Jessica. In martial arts it is called the beginner mindset set. Keeping our minds open to learning new things is paramount for the human experience. Without curiosity, we risk stagnation in our development.
That’s awesome, Eladio! I love how martial arts teaches such a simple, yet effective and fantastic mindset for growth and development. Every master thinks like a beginner!
Curiosity feels less like a personality trait and more like a form of self-regulation, the pause that keeps us from hardening too early. When it goes offline, life still works, but it loses its elasticity. Staying open longer might be the most underrated leadership skill there is.
I agree! the ability to stay open, proactive, and optimistic instead closed, shut down and bored are great qualities for a person in a leadership role.
Jessica, love this! I keep noticing how easy it is to stop being curious without meaning to. Nothing breaks, nothing goes wrong. I just start using the same answers and the same thoughts because they feel safe. Curiosity feels riskier now than it used to. It asks me to admit I might not know, or that I might need to change my mind. Some days I choose certainty because it is easier to hold. But I can feel the cost. I can feel my world shrink when I stop asking questions. When I slow down and get curious again, even a little, I feel myself come back. More here. Like I am part of the world again instead of just managing my place in it.
You must are definitely part of this world, JP. Stay curious but don’t get too curious and misbehave and open Pandora’s box. 😆 🤣 I think it’s important to find a healthy balance between curiosity and certainty for yourself. Thank you for reading, JP!
thank you so much, Wildfire! I appreciate you reading and stopping by to leave a comment. Trust me I love asking “why". haha some people get annoyed by it 😆
Thank you, Shannon! I appreciate you stopping by to read and share your wisdom with us! I agree it’s one of the most underrated intentions! Staying curious helps me treat each day as a new and fun blank canvas!
Thank you, Dr. Sam! Curiosity keeps me going for sure, but sometimes could get me into trouble with being so curious and wanting to open Pandora’s box. That’s when self-awareness steps in and is key!!
That exact part reminds me of you, Chris! You have a window of tolerance and mental and physical capacity that’s beyond admirable. You have clearly remained curious in your 47 years of life. 🤗

Love this Jessica! “However, real leadership doesn’t come from certainty. It comes from the capacity to stay open longer than others do.”
