The more you hold it in, the heavier it gets, and the more disconnected you feel, not just from others, but from yourself.
When you never say what you need to say, you teach yourself that your feelings don’t matter. That you don’t matter.
And that kind of quiet hurt can leak into everything: your health, your confidence, your relationships, your performance at work, and your ability to feel joy.
The Neuroscience of Staying Silent: Why Bottling It Up Backfires
When you swallow your feelings, you’re not just hurting emotionally — you’re literally rewiring your brain and body to live in stress.
