I love this and glad I found this. I think it's very cool we both wrote on the same theme a couple days apart.

Very true - and sadly too often misaligned with mainstream American cultural mores.

I try to avoid the matrix and anything mainstream like the plague!!

I appreciate how this reframes support as biology, not weakness. For many people, that distinction changes everything.

Jessica Drapluk's avatar

Thank you, Denise!! When support is understood as biology rather than deficiency, it really does shift how people relate to themselves and others. That reframe opens the door to more compassion and more sustainable ways of being together.🫶🙌

That reframe has changed how I talk to myself on hard days!

I’m so happy to hear that, Denise! You’re an awesome woman!

That’s very kind of you to say!

This is a powerful reminder Jessica, as a species we are wired to seek community. Being around people you trust can do wonders for your emotional wellbeing.

I truly enjoyed this reading so much. I reread this line 3 times to myself

"This isn’t a personal failing. It’s biology responding to context."

This lifted me this morning, thank you.

Thank you so much, Flora! I’m glad it lifted you today. It means the world to me to be able to touch or inspire people through my writing. Thank you for reading and commenting! 🫶🏼🙌🏼

This is such an important reframe. Strength isn’t isolation, it’s knowing when to lean and when to hold.

Jessica Drapluk's avatar

And that is what you call emotional maturity and adulthood, my friend!

Love this Jess. So easy to forget that we are all part of the same ecosystem that is life, and that by working together things become so much more pleasant for us to co-exist in harmony! 🙏

This is so true!

And the societal trend for the last couple of decades is to move to an individualistic life. I come from a very tight community (a village called Urk, yes it's a real name). It is a former island and now connected to land. Interdependence still is very high there. Looking after each other is very (very!) important. Sometimes too important ;-). But it has been an example for me, especially now I don't live there anymore.

The feeling of wellbeing in a tight community like Urk is high.

Thank you for sharing this, Wilbert. That’s a powerful example and also very cool and unique! Communities like the one you describe show what interdependence looks like when it’s lived, not theorized. You’re right that it can feel intense at times, but that shared responsibility and care is also what creates such a strong sense of belonging and well-being. It makes sense that the contrast feels sharper once you’ve lived outside of it. I really appreciate you bringing this perspective into the conversation and taking the time to leave a meaningful comment.
